why did I create this blog ?-

Hello, if I was you I would stick around because this blog was created for people like me. people who live and breathe musical theatre. I regularly update with my reviews and experiences, every aspects of musical theatre analysed, from history to costume.

2023 show reviews-

Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, book by Joe Masteroff, music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb

"The best show I have ever seen, absolutely life changing" I saw Cabaret only 8 shows into the cast change of 2023, Rebecca Lucy Taylor (AKA Self Esteem) played a role that I consider to be one of the hardest in  all of musical theatre, Sally Bowles. And she did it fantastically! The other cast member who changed was Jake Shears, who captured the pure essence of such a complex character, Emcee.

"A masterclass in merging history with the 21st century, especially in regards to costume" I saw SIX most recently and the thought behind each costume and it's specific redesigns by Gabriella Slade for the west end to in her words give "each Queen a unique silhouette." The cast had such high energy and my favourite Queen Kathrine Howard, I couldn't have wished to be played any better than by Inez Budd.

The poster for SIX the musical with the SIX logo featuring a crown above the I and the SIX queens singing with microphones.
Grease the musical with book music and lyrics by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Starring Peter Andre as Vince Fontaine. At the Dominion Theatre.

"Embodies the film in a different sense, without trying to be it but achieving the same joy and amazement when you hear the opening chords to your favourite number." Grease was a show and a party all in one, hearing the awe inspiring voice of the wonderful Olivia Moore belting her heart out. Combined with the crowd reactions to the guest star of Peter Andre as soon as it started the mix at the end not one person in the massive Dominion Theatre was left without a smile. A show that meant so much to so many , now means even more.

"A powerful feat of a show, traditional, ahead of it's time, never fails to leave me in tears." This musical that is so well known that everyone should go and see it. It's unique and recognisable music is known by so many and means something different to everyone and after that fantastic performance featuring one of my favourite actors Lucie Jones has even more gravity than when I ever heard it previously. A summary in three words would be power, comradery and humanity.

Les Miserables at the Sondheim theatre with a illustrated picture of young Cossette in front of a red flag.
The Hamilton poster featuring a sillhoutte of a man with his hand in the air making up the fifth point of a star on top of a painted gold background.

"An innovation unlike any other, the greatest musical written in recent years, created by one of the greatest modern minds." Hamilton was impactful on so many levels, this was the second time this year I have seen this show. This second time with a different cast and always a new take on the same material as everyone will take away something different. Whether it's the technical genius of the putting together of this show, the emotion of each character or how so much history could be covered in so little time, or something else. It's a must see!
